Weekly Wrap: Crypto Rallies To Start ‘Uptober’

Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies rose to start October. On Oct. 2, Bitcoin got as high as $86,500 U.S. Other digital assets such as Ethereum and Solana also rose to begin what is typically the strongest month of the year for crypto.October has traditionally been so strong for Bitcoin and other digital assets that some investors call the month “Uptober.” On average, Bitcoin has risen an impressive 18.52% during the month, outpacing all other periods of the year. In October 2025, BTC hit an all-time high of just over $126,000 U.S.Bitcoin has momentum heading into this October, having gained 42% in the year’s third quarter, with most of that rally occurring in late August and September. Analysts say that crypto has wind in its sails as crude oil prices and bond yields that had been pressuring markets begin to retreat. After steadily rising in September, both oil prices and U.S. Treasury yields are declining at the outset of the fourth quarter.Here’s what else happened with cryptocurrencies over the past week…Crypto Industry Loses $1.26 Billion To Hacks: The cryptocurrency industry lost a collective $1.26 billion U.S. to hacks in this year’s third quarter. Crypto security firm CertiK says that the industry endured 247 security breaches between July and September of this year, with losses totaling $1.26 billion U.S. Losses year-to-date now stand at $2.68 billion U.S. September was the worst month yet in 2026 for hacks, with 99 incidents occurring, the most in a single month since February 2025.Trump Plans Another Memecoin Dinner: U.S. President Donald Trump is planning to hold a third dinner for investors in his memecoin CRYPTO:TRUMP. Trump is planning to invite the top 185 investors in his memecoin to a private event on Nov. 22. News of the “gala dinner,” which is being promoted by the White House, sent the price of the Trump coin up 10% to $2.25 U.S. before it sank back to $2.05 U.S. At its peak before Trump’s 2025 inauguration, the memecoin traded as high as $74 U.S.Binance Accused Of Operating In Europe Without A License: Regulators in Europe are questioning cryptocurrency exchange Binance over its ongoing operations on the continent without a license. Officials in the European Union (EU) are accusing Binance of using a legal exemption to continue serving customers in the region despite an order to wind down its operations. The company lost permission to offer its trading services to European clients after its application under a new licensing regime was rejected earlier this year.Tokenized Assets Hit $34 Billion: The value of tokenized assets has reached $34 billion U.S. as a growing number of stocks move onchain. Dune, a crypto analytics firm, issued a report that says tokenized assets grew more than 140% over the past year to reach $33.9 billion U.S. on Aug. 31. Dune found that the value of tokenized stocks increased ninefold year-over-year as a growing number of equities are place on blockchain rails.Blockchain.com To Go Public: Blockchain.com says it plans to go public by year’s end at a $6 billion U.S. valuation. The British cryptocurrency financial services company is looking to raise about $500 million U.S. from an American initial public offering (IPO). The company is one of the highest profile crypto firms to go public this year following a slew of prominent listings in 2025, such as stablecoin issuer Circle and crypto exchange Gemini .Strategy Buys $143 Million Of Bitcoin: Strategy continues to purchase Bitcoin, buying $143 million U.S. worth of the cryptocurrency in the last week of September. The serial crypto acquirer bought 1,665 BTC for approximately $142.7 million U.S. between Sept. 21 and Sept. 27. Strategy now owns a total of 847,666 Bitcoin worth $70.6 billion U.S. The company’s average price of its BTC is $75,437 U.S. Strategy's holdings are equivalent to more than 4% of Bitcoin's circulating supply.Polymarket Hires Goldman Sachs Banker: Prediction market exchange Polymarket has hired a veteran Goldman Sachs banker as it looks to attract institutional investors. Lisa Mantil, who spent nearly three decades at Goldman Sachs, will be Polymarket’s head of institutional growth, the company announced in a statement. Mantil is the latest high-profile hire by Polymarket. Earlier in September, Polymarket hired Warren Jenson as its chief financial officer (CFO). Jenson previously held senior roles at Amazon .Bitcoin ETF Win Streak Comes To An End: The win streak seen in Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) during September has come to an end. The nine-day streak in a dozen U.S.-listed Bitcoin ETFs saw a total of $3.1 billion U.S. in net inflows. However, the inflows abruptly came to an end on Sept. 30 as a combined $148.7 million U.S. of capital flowed out of the ETFs. The nine-day win streak was one of the biggest runs for the Bitcoin ETFs since they launched. Overall, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs have attracted $57 billion U.S. in cumulative net inflows since their debut in January 2024, including $970 million U.S. this year.Consortium Launches OUSD Stablecoin: A consortium led by credit card giant Visa and backed by more than 100 companies worldwide has launched a new stablecoin. The consortium has launched a new U.S. dollar-pegged stablecoin called “OUSD” . The stablecoin is issued by Open Standard, a coalition that’s backed by major financial and technology companies and seeks to govern the OUSD ecosystem. Open Standard said the new stablecoin aims to address limitations that are holding back stablecoin adoption.Ethereum To Test Glamsterdam Upgrade Oct. 6: The Ethereum Foundation has scheduled a test of its Glamsterdam upgrade for Oct. 6. The test is expected to be the final one before a future mainnet rollout of the upgrade that is expected to dramatically increase transaction speeds across the Ethereum blockchain. The upgrade combines changes known as “Amsterdam” on Ethereum’s execution layer and “Gloas” on the consensus layer. The end result should be a faster and more efficient Ethereum network, according to the Foundation.
