SEC seeks public comments for WisdomTree’s proposal for an XRP ETF
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is looking for public comments to decide how to move forward with a proposal for an XRP exchange-traded fund.In a filing posted on Wednesday, the SEC acknowledged a proposal from Cboe BZX Exchange, Inc., to list and trade shares of the WisdomTree XRP Fund. The agency asked for the public to send comments in the next 21 days or after being published in the Federal Register. Next, the agency could decide to approve, disapprove or "institute proceedings."The SEC has acknowledged a few XRP ETF proposals over the past few days including from Bitwise, CoinShares and Grayscale. Multiple firms have been vying not only for an XRP ETF over the past several weeks, but others as well including ones based on Solana to Dogecoin. This comes as a new Trump administration has rolled into Washington, which has been viewed as taking a friendlier approach to crypto. The SEC itself has also turned a regulatory leaf following former SEC Chair Gary Gensler's leave last month — Gensler had been skeptical of crypto, calling most cryptocurrencies securities. During his time, the SEC approved the listing of spot Bitcoin ETFs in January 2024 and, later that year, spot Ethereum ETFs.Disclaimer: The Block is an independent media outlet that delivers news, research, and data.
