Mastercard is partnering with privately held blockchain-connections company Chainlink to help investors buy cryptocurrency assets using their payment cards and Chainlink's fiat currency-to-crypto conversion process, the companies said Tuesday. The partnership builds on their respective strengths, the companies said, with transactions initiated through Chainlink's interoperability infrastructure supported by the credit card issuer's global payments network. Several other financial technology firms also are helping to enable the new process, with Shift4Payments providing additional integration support and privately held zerohash offering up onchain services and liquidity needed for seamless fiat-to-crypto conversions. Other partners include XSwap and Swapper Finance, which assisted with the development of the next-generation app using the Uniswap protocol to execute trades. Financial terms were not disclosed. Shares of Mastercard were up more than 2% in recent trading Tuesday, while Shift4Payments added 3.2%.
