Ledger lands first sports jersey sponsorship with NBA’s San Antonio Spurs

Crypto wallet firm Ledger has landed its first professional sports uniform sponsorship, saddling up with the San Antonio Spurs in a multi-year agreement. The Paris-based firm's logo patch will adorn the team's jersey this week during the NBA Draft."The U.S. is Ledger's top market globally, and aligning ourselves with an historic U.S. sports team, which boasts a deep French connection past and present, will help us onboard the next generation of sovereign individuals," Ledger Chairman and CEO Pascal Gauthier said in a release. "The San Antonio Spurs, at the heart of America in Texas, is the future of the league, growing their fandom rapidly, and the most international team the NBA has to offer."Crypto exchanges spent $565 million in global sports sponsorship for the 2024-2025 season, up 20% year-over-year, according to SportQuake. San Antonio's Ledger-branded jerseys will be presented to their first-round draft picks (no. 2 and no. 14 overall) Wednesday night and will be featured on the San Antonio Spurs and Austin Spurs team jerseys, as well as fan jerseys.Of note, the Spurs have had at least two legendary French players lead the franchise. Tony Parker played for the team for 20 years and helped them win four NBA championships. In 2023, the team drafted Victor Wembanyama, whose athletic ability and 7'4" frame helped him win NBA Rookie of the Year.Ledger will take an active role in the Spurs' ongoing community efforts in Paris, according to the release. Ledger will also become the presenting partner of Spurs Tech & Basketball Camp programming as well as the Spurs Jr. NBA and Spurs Sports Academy fundamentals camps.Gauthier told Bloomberg that 40% of Ledger's business is in the United States. The firm's line of hardware wallets secures over 20% of the world's crypto assets, the firm estimates. Earlier Tuesday, Ledger introduced Recovery Key, enabling users to recover certain Ledger wallets by tapping the device and entering a PIN.Disclaimer: The Block is an independent media outlet that delivers news, research, and data.
