As a free-to-play online trading card game, it draws parallels with popular games like Magic: The Gathering Arena. However, it differentiates itself by offering a unique economic model where players can earn real-world value, thereby subverting the traditional gaming commerce paradigm where in-game purchases lack resale value. The gameplay and strategy in Gods Unchained mirror that of conventional online card games. However, the distinction lies in its economic infrastructure. Instead of merely simulating in-game currencies like “gold” or “credits”, Gods Unchained employs a tangible currency with inherent monetary value. This real-world financial implication augments the gaming experience as players can trade cards in the game’s marketplace. Winning matches yields more cards, adding an extra layer of competitiveness and incentive. The game is also expanding its user base by employing effective promotional strategies such as tournaments and is in the process of launching a mobile version to enhance its global reach. The GODS token stands central to the Gods Unchained ecosystem. Classified as an ERC-20 token, it serves multiple purposes: from facilitating in-game transactions in the marketplace to the creation of NFTs and acquiring rewards. The token has a capped supply of 500 million units, distributed among various stakeholders, including players and developers. Furthermore, players can securely store their GODS tokens and associated NFT cards in web 3.0 wallets, such as MetaMask. Notably, beyond its transactional value, the GODS token also empowers players with a governance role. They can exercise voting rights on game-related decisions, epitomizing the game’s community-centric ethos.
