
Global Markets in Cautious Mood Ahead of Trump's Tariff Announcement
By Dow Jones Newswires StaffGlobal stock markets started the day in a cautious mood ahead of the Trump administration's tariff announcement later.U.S. stock futures eased a bit in early European trading and Asian stock markets mostly eked out small gains, while markets across Europe fell. The tariff announcement is now expected at around 2000 GMT at an event in the White House Rose Garden.U.S. stock futures for the S&P 500 were down 0.2% and futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.1%, while the Nasdaq was off around 0.3%. The Nikkei closed up 0.3%, with small gains in China. South Korea's benchmark Kospi fell 0.6%, dragged by defense, auto and steel stocks. The DAX, CAC 40 and FTSE 100 all registered small losses at the open.The U.S. dollar was steady, with the DXY dollar index flat against a basket of major currencies at 104.234.Bitcoin eased as investors remained cautious on risky assets ahead of the tariff announcement, and was last down 1.2% to $84,197, according to LSEG data.Goldman Sachs lowered its forecasts for the end-2025 level of two- and 10-year U.S. Treasury yields to 3.30% and 4.00%, respectively, from 3.95% and 4.35% previously. The two-year Treasury yield was recently up four basis points as was the 10-year, having fallen pretty consistently in recent days.The 10-year Bund yield rose one basis point at 2.687%, according to Tradeweb.Gold futures were flat, near recent record highs, at $3,145.90 a troy ounce.Write to Barcelona Editors at [email protected]
