Zcash: EU AMLR prohibits anonymisation-enhancing coin accounts - 10 Jul 2027
The EU Anti-Money Laundering Regulation takes effect, prohibiting crypto-asset service providers from keeping accounts that allow anonymisation or obfuscation of transactions. The rule explicitly covers anonymity-enhancing coins such as Monero and Zcash, so EU venues can no longer service these assets once the regulation applies across member states. The practical effect is an EU-wide access ban for ZEC and XMR on regulated venues, since custody and trading accounts for these coins fall under the prohibition. Service providers face a compliance choice between delisting and risking breaches of the new framework. The bearish effect is bounded. Both tokens have already absorbed major EU delistings in earlier regulatory phases, so much of the venue-access loss is priced in. Demand for ZEC and its main US wrapper has proven largely insensitive to venue access, which limits how much additional pressure this ban can create.
