Web3 Security Losses Reach $188.1 Million in August, GoPlus Reports

GoPlus reported 33 major Web3 security incidents in August, with total losses of about $188.1 million. According to Foresight News, this was 59% of July's total losses of about $319 million and 2.4 times June's losses of about $77.98 million.Of the incidents recorded, 28 were exploit attacks that caused about $162.3 million in losses. The largest single event was a price manipulation and overborrowing attack on Tectonic, which resulted in a $75 million loss. The five largest incidents together caused about $141.5 million in losses, or roughly 75.2% of the monthly total, up from 73.5% in July.By category, price manipulation and oracle attacks caused about $83.2 million in losses, private key leaks and wallet thefts caused about $39.1 million, and base chain and ecosystem vulnerabilities caused about $25.8 million. These three risk types accounted for about 79% of total losses.
