Tyler Williams, a senior U.S. Treasury official overseeing digital asset policy and a key adviser to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, has left the department, according to a Monday report by Punchbowl News. According to Cointelegraph, Bessent said Williamsâ last day at the Treasury Department was Friday and described him as âinstrumentalâ in advancing the Trump administrationâs goal of making the US the âcrypto capital of the world.â Williams joined the Treasury Department in early 2025 after serving as head of policy at Galaxy Digital, and he played a central role in shaping the administrationâs digital asset agenda. The report said Williams is expected to return to the private sector.Williamsâ departure comes as Congress remains deadlocked over the Digital Asset Market Clarity (CLARITY) Act, a market structure bill that has stalled ahead of lawmakersâ August recess amid disagreements over ethics provisions for federal officials. The legislation requires 60 votes to advance in the Senate, which means Republicans need Democratic support to move it forward, but bipartisan consensus has not yet emerged. Analysts at Bernstein said Monday that further delays to the bill could weigh on digital asset prices by extending regulatory uncertainty. The stalled debate leaves the measureâs outlook unclear as lawmakers head toward the recess, with the ethics issue continuing to block progress on the broader market structure proposal.
