Solana Mainnet Activates First Slot Time Reduction to 350 Milliseconds

Solana developer Brennan Watt announced on X that the Solana mainnet has activated its first slot time reduction, with the target lowered from 400 milliseconds to 350 milliseconds. According to ChainCatcher, the change will take effect at Epoch 1020.Watt said some SDK constants, including DEFAULT_MS_PER_SLOT, have not yet been updated to the new value and will be pushed in later versions. He said the transition period could affect applications that rely on SDK constants matching mainnet conditions, and advised developers to manually check whether the feature is enabled based on Epoch boundaries when it takes effect. Watt added that the long-term plan is to put these parameters on-chain for client queries, but the interim period is necessary to roll out the reduction sooner.
