Ripple Chief Legal Officer Stuart Alderoty said September 15 will be a key date for determining whether the U.S. Clarity Act crypto market structure bill can keep moving forward. According to Odaily, he said the Senate will hold its first procedural motion on that date to decide whether to proceed to debate, and the motion needs 60 votes to advance the bill.Alderoty, who also serves as chairman of the National Crypto Association, said the SEC and CFTC have publicly stated they will continue developing crypto regulatory rules even if market structure legislation stalls. He said closer coordination between the two agencies is a positive sign, noting that they have not always worked together in the past but are now cooperating more closely on crypto asset regulation. He added that the industry still prefers congressional legislation because it would be more stable and harder to reverse than regulation alone. Alderoty said the U.S. will have crypto regulation either way, with the difference being whether it comes through a longer-lasting congressional framework or through rules advanced by regulators alone.
