Polygon Co-Founder Says Staking and Tokenomics Reform Proposal Is Moving Forward
Polygon co-founder Sandeep Nailwal said the team is advancing a staking and tokenomics reform proposal in response to community demand. According to ChainCatcher, he said Polygon’s revenue has increased 10-fold this year, the network has delivered 5,000 TPS and reduced block time by 25%, and is moving toward block times below 1 second. The proposal would introduce native L1-like staking on Polygon PoS that could run alongside Ethereum staking. It also calls for transaction priority fees to go to POL stakers, with PIP-85 already approved, and says native staking could simplify implementation. Nailwal said staking yields are expected to nearly double and would be supported by real network fees rather than inflation. Additional incentives for staking POL could include discounted gas fees, while sPOL would remain liquid and usable in DeFi. Polygon Labs will write the code and submit the proposal to the community forum for review.
