NEAR Protocol: House of Stake vote on cutting max issuance to 1.6% - By 11 Oct 2026

SVRN has put an issuance reduction proposal before a House of Stake vote, scheduled by 11 Oct 2026. The plan ramps NEAR's max issuance down from 2.5% to 1.6% per epoch over 24 months while keeping the 90/10 split between stakers and the protocol. Guardrails can pause the schedule but cannot reverse it, and a permanence covenant rules out reopening issuance debates afterward.If the vote passes, roughly 66M tokens will never be minted, tightening supply relative to the current emission schedule. The trade-off is staking yield, stated to fall from about 5.4% to about 3.4%, so holders face a direct scarcity-versus-return decision.
