Michael Saylor Predicts Bitcoin Will Gain 30% Annually for 20 Years
Strategy ) Executive Chairman Michael Saylor says artificial intelligence helped the world’s largest corporate Bitcoin holder solve a financing problem that traditional Wall Street structures could not.Speaking on the “The Diary Of A CEO” podcast on Aug. 6, Saylor explained that Strategy turned to AI after reaching the practical limits of traditional equity and convertible bond financing for additional Bitcoin purchases. He said he used OpenAI’s ChatGPT to help explore and structure new preferred securities, contributing to the development of ) and later (NASDAQ:STRC), a variable-rate preferred stock designed to trade near its $100 par value.Saylor pointed out that AI helped Strategy navigate financial, legal and structural challenges that bankers and lawyers initially viewed skeptically.Strategy ultimately issued roughly $15 billion in credit instruments using the assistance of AI. His broader message to entrepreneurs is "don’t try to outwork the robots."Why Did Strategy Sell Bitcoin?Selling Bitcoin is still not Strategy’s primary funding strategy.Saylor addressed the company’s recent Bitcoin sale despite his long-standing message that investors should hold the cryptocurrency for the long term.He highlighted that the sale was intended partly to challenge the market narrative that Strategy had accumulated so much Bitcoin that it could never sell without crashing both BTC and MSTR.“We’re the biggest buyer of Bitcoin in the world,” Saylor said, adding that some investors had begun treating Strategy’s Bitcoin holdings as effectively unusable because liquidating them was perceived as impossible.Strategy therefore sold enough Bitcoin to demonstrate that BTC could fund its preferred-stock dividend obligations without materially disrupting the market.Saylor reminded Bitcoin was trading around $59,000 when the company sold and subsequently it moved higher.“If you want people to believe that you can do a thing, you have to do the thing,” he emphasized.Saylor Sees Bitcoin Gaining 30% AnnuallySaylor remains exceptionally bullish on Bitcoin’s long-term prospects.“I think it appreciates about 30% a year for the next 20 years,” he predicted. The appreciation rate could subsequently moderate toward 20%.He expects Bitcoin to outperform the S&P 500 by roughly 1.5 to two times over the long term.Saylor argued Bitcoin is particularly suitable for investors who can leave capital untouched for at least four years and preferably a decade.“Bitcoin is digital money,” Saylor said, “and it’s going to be the best long-term capital asset.”Image: Shutterstock
