Livepeer announced that Livepeer 2.0 makes compute the unit supplied by nodes, allowing CPU-only nodes and API specialists to compete on the range and quality of what they serve.By shifting supply from GPU hardware to compute, the release lowers the hardware requirement for participating in the network. CPU-only operators and API specialists can contribute different types of processing, so competition can depend more on the range and quality of services provided than on access to large GPUs. That broadens the set of operators able to serve Livepeer's AI-compute use case. The change can increase investor attention to the token's network utility, but available node types alone do not show that demand or adoption has increased. For nine years, running a Livepeer node was a hardware race: bring the biggest GPUs, transcode or run inference, earn fees. Now, AI changes what's being supplied. In Livepeer 2.0 the unit is compute itself.CPU-only nodes and API specialists can now compete on the range and…
