Litecoin surges 8% as network activity reaches new heights

Litecoin surged roughly 8% in a 24-hour window, reaching intraday highs near $69 and touching eight-month price levels, as the network underneath it suddenly got very busy. The catalyst was hard to ignore: the Litecoin Foundation reported that over 17 million LTC, representing approximately $1 billion in adjusted economic volume, moved across the network in a single day.Spot trading volume nearly tripled from levels recorded around September 18, climbing to roughly $948 million. Futures open interest crossed $500 million in the same window, suggesting that traders were not just buying and holding; they were taking on leveraged positions, betting on continued momentum. The price broke above a technical resistance cluster sitting between $64 and $65. LTC's intraday range ran from $59 to $69.Daily active addresses on the network fluctuated between 200,000 and over 300,000 during recent periods.Analysts watching the setup have pointed to $71 as the next meaningful upside target if buying pressure holds. A close back below $64 would unwind much of the technical case and invite sellers back into the picture.Litecoin launched in 2011 as a faster, lighter version of Bitcoin.LitVM, a Layer-2 solution being developed for the Litecoin network, aims to bring smart contract functionality to a chain that has historically been limited to simple value transfers.ETF-related flows have also entered the conversation. Institutional appetite for crypto exposure through regulated products has expanded well beyond Bitcoin, and Litecoin has been part of discussions around broader crypto ETF product development. The $1 billion in daily transfer volume represents genuine network utilization at scale relative to LTC's circulating supply. Over 17 million LTC moving in a day is a meaningful fraction of what exists. For traders already in the position, the key level to watch is the $64 support zone. A hold there keeps the bullish structure intact. A breakdown invites a reassessment of the whole setup, and given how thin the order book was on the way up, the way down could be equally sharp. If LitVM matures and attracts meaningful developer activity, the network's utility case expands beyond peer-to-peer payments, which has been Litecoin's primary pitch since 2011.
