The International Monetary Fund said it has reached a staff-level agreement with El Salvador on the second and third combined reviews of its 40-month Extended Fund Facility arrangement. If approved by the Executive Board and after prior actions are completed, El Salvador could receive about $140 million, or 101.96 million special drawing rights.According to Foresight News, the IMF said public participation in El Salvador's Chivo digital wallet has been sharply reduced, with most equity and operational control transferred to a private operator while the government retains a minority stake. The statement added that Bitcoin purchases since the first review were documented as coming from private donations and did not use public resources. The two sides also signed a memorandum of understanding on modernizing the legal and regulatory framework for digital assets and strengthening public-sector governance and risk management for crypto assets. The IMF said El Salvador is expected not to add more Bitcoin beyond recorded donations and is increasing transparency over wallet holdings.
