Hut 8’s stock is down 5% on Aug.4 after the Bitcoin miner and artificial intelligence (A.I.) data centre operator reported disappointing financial results.Hut 8 announced a second-quarter net loss of -$1.78 U.S. per share, which was worse than analyst’s consensus expectation for a loss of -$0.52 U.S.Most of the quarterly loss was attributable to a $138.6 million U.S. unrealized loss on Hut 8’s Bitcoin holdings.Revenue in the April through June quarter totaled $74.9 million U.S., which missed Wall Street forecasts that called for sales of $80 million U.S.Management at Hut 8 used the earnings report to reiterate milestones that were announced in recent weeks, including the full commercialization of its one-gigawatt Beacon Point A.I. campus. On the earnings call, management pushed back on concerns that demand for A.I. infrastructure is cooling.Hut 8 CEO Asher Genoot said that “demand is robust” and that “everyone wants capacity.”The company added that it continues to advance construction at its River Bend and Beacon Point A.I. campuses in the U.S.Genoot also addressed Hut 8’s shifting Bitcoin strategy, saying he expects future BTC exposure to reside with American Bitcoin , Hut 8's majority-owned subsidiary.“Going forward, the Bitcoin exposure will primarily be at American Bitcoin,” he said.Prior to today (Aug.4), HUT stock had risen 400% in the last 12 months to trade at $105.96 U.S. per share.
