Hong Kong Targets $320 Trillion in On-Chain Asset Tokenization
Hong Kong is emphasizing policy consistency and predictability as it advances its Web3 strategy, according to remarks made during a roundtable discussion. According to ChainCatcher, Hong Kong Investment Promotion Agency official King Leung said the city is rolling out a clear roadmap and introducing supporting measures every six to 12 months so companies can plan capital commitments over three to five years.Leung said Hong Kong’s digital asset push is not limited to crypto-native trading and is ultimately aimed at tokenizing up to $320 trillion in traditional financial assets.Pakistan Virtual Asset Regulatory Authority Chairman Bilal Bin Saqib said Pakistan moved from the passage of its relevant bill to the rollout of a full regulatory framework in six months, using 8% of the government’s allocated budget. He said emerging economies face higher costs from inaction than from trying and failing, even though risk controls are still necessary. The discussion highlighted two regulatory models for Web3: Hong Kong’s slower, rules-based approach and Pakistan’s faster, lower-cost approach. It also underscored that digital asset regulation is becoming more diverse, with mature financial centers building high-certainty frameworks while emerging markets use faster legislation to test on-chain finance.
