Apex Group named Nick Tomadakis chief product officer today (Thursday), its second appointment to the role in 20 months. The announcement appears to place him in a job last assigned to Zion Hilelly, although Apex did not explain Hilelly's status.Tomadakis will control the product roadmap at a company that says it services more than $3.5 trillion in assets. His mandate also covers the period before Apex's $100 billion tokenization target for June 2027.A Second Appointment to the Same RoleApex appointed Hilelly as chief product officer effective January 1, 2025. Its announcement at the time said he would lead a product-team overhaul focused on product development, accountability and profit and loss responsibility.Hilelly joined after more than two decades at BlackRock, where he worked on post-trade products for the Aladdin platform, and a later position at S&P Global. Apex was still identifying him as chief product officer in company materials published during 2025.Hilelly's public LinkedIn profile checked by FinanceMagnates.com continued to list him at Apex.Tomadakis's profile continued to identify him with DCM. Neither profile showed the leadership change when checked. The latest release names Tomadakis as chief product officer without describing the position as newly created, mentioning Hilelly or announcing a broader division of duties. Tomadakis will report directly to Apex founder and Chief Executive Officer Peter Hughes.FinanceMagnates.com contacted Apex for clarification and had not yet received a response at the time of publication. The article will be updated if the company responds.Tomadakis Joins From Blockchain Payments FirmTomadakis most recently served as chief product and growth officer at DCM Systems, a London software company developing infrastructure for tokenized deposits and blockchain-based payments. He announced that appointment about a year ago.His earlier employers include Rakuten Viber, Revolut, Barclays and Visa Europe. At Rakuten Viber, he worked on Viber Pay, an e-wallet that expanded across several European markets.Apex said Tomadakis will oversee its global product strategy and the development of technology-based services. Apex said in March that it would use the T-REX Ledger as its default infrastructure for distributing tokenized funds across several blockchain networks.Apex has set a target of $100 billion in tokenized assets on the infrastructure by June 2027. The target has not been independently verified, and Apex has not published interim progress figures.Apex bought a majority stake in Luxembourg-based Tokeny in May 2025, with a path to full ownership over three years. Tokeny developed the ERC-3643 standard used for permissioned tokenized assets.Apex's digital-asset work predates that acquisition. In 2023, it partnered with Deutsche Boerse-owned Crypto Finance on infrastructure for institutional crypto investment products.Apex has also used technology to expand the distribution of alternative investments. A 2020 agreement with BITE Investments targeted online access to alternative-asset portfolios for investors in Asia.Apex says it employs more than 13,000 people. Its deadline for reaching $100 billion in tokenized assets is June 2027.
