A cross-chain bridge connecting the XRP Ledger and Coreum was attacked on August 9, with the attacker stealing about 199,900 XRP through a verification logic flaw. According to Odaily, the bridge’s asset balance fell from about 200,400 XRP to 493.5 XRP.The attack did not involve private key leakage and did not target the XRP Ledger protocol itself. The attacker forged deposit operations so the bridge system treated them as real deposits and triggered the bridge wallet on the other side to send actual XRP.On-chain data showed the attacker moved the funds through 94 multisig-authorized transactions in 97 minutes. The transactions required 17 signatures from 28 relay node keys, allowing the attacker to bypass the bridge’s verification mechanism. As of August 11, the Coreum cross-chain bridge remained paused, and the Coreum Development Foundation had not released an official incident report. The XRP mainnet and user private keys were not affected.
