Centrifuge released governance proposal CP172 on August 18 to explore converting CFG tokens into company equity. According to ChainCatcher, the proposal says the company has shifted toward institutional infrastructure, and its existing token structure has become a constraint on partner expansion and capital raising.Under the proposal, 1 CFG would be exchangeable for 1 share of Centrifuge Inc., with the equity recorded in tokenized form. Eligible holders of more than 100,000 CFG could be added directly to the shareholder register, while smaller holders would participate through CoinList's trust structure without additional fees or minimum requirements. Holders who do not convert could continue to hold or sell their tokens, and the team, community, and partners would receive the same class of shares. The proposal is currently in the RFC stage and will remain open for 14 days. It would still require board approval and a successful governance vote before moving forward.Centrifuge describes itself as an open decentralized infrastructure for onchain asset management and real-world asset tokenization. The platform allows asset managers to tokenize institutional assets such as credit, real estate, and Treasuries for use in DeFi, and its core components include a compliant asset origination framework, Anemoy, and Proof of Index infrastructure for tokenized structured products such as S&P 500 index funds.
