Bittensor: Foundation proposes Gamma tokens for inter-subnet service purchases - 28 Sep 2026

Openτensor Foundation has introduced Gamma tokens, a proposed economic layer that lets Bittensor subnets buy services from each other using part of their emissions. The proposal restructures how emissions and USD-denominated demand flow through the network. In the described design, a subnet would allocate part of its emissions to buy services from other subnets, creating direct payment routes between subnets alongside the standard emission distribution.Because the mechanism ties part of emission value to inter-subnet service demand, investors track how purchases would reroute TAO flows across the network. The design is still a proposal, so its effect depends on the foundation moving it from introduction into an adopted operating layer.Introducing Gamma tokens, a proposed new economic layer for Bittensor. The ambition is to make it easier for subnets to power each other’s products and grow an open AI ecosystem that can compete with the biggest labs.
