Bitcoin Is Losing Small Investors? Binance Retail Inflows Fall to 281 BTC
Bitcoin’s retail activity on Binance has fallen to its lowest level in years, even as BTC continues to trade at a much higher valuation than previous market cycles. CryptoQuant analyst Darkfost reports that small-investor inflows have dropped to just 281 BTC.This raises questions about why small investors are no longer showing the same level of activity.Binance Retail Deposits Fall Nearly 90%According to analyst Darkfost, Binance’s 30-day average of retail inflows has fallen to just 281 BTC. The metric tracks deposits of less than 1 BTC and shows how much smaller investors are moving onto the exchange.During the 2019–2021 bull cycle, average retail inflows reached around 2,700 BTC, nearly 10 times the current level. At the time, Bitcoin was trading near $15,700. Activity also picked up in early 2023 after the FTX collapse, when panic pushed average inflows to about 1,900 BTC.However, the market peaks in March and December 2024 saw much smaller increases, with inflows reaching only 900–1,200 BTC.The latest figures show a clear gap between Bitcoin’s price and retail activity. BTC is now trading at around $77,414, roughly five times above its bear-market low. Yet retail inflows remain far below previous cycle levels, with the current average around five times lower than the 2020 peak. Why Are Retail Investors Depositing Less Bitcoin?Darkfost points to the launch of US spot Bitcoin ETFs in January 2024 as one of the main possible reasons. Before these products entered the market, investors seeking direct Bitcoin exposure often had to purchase BTC through crypto exchanges.ETFs created another route, allowing investors to gain exposure through traditional investment accounts without managing private wallets. The scale of this market is already significant as the US spot Bitcoin ETFs have attracted $57.04 billion in cumulative net inflows, while their total net assets reached $102.77 billion as of November 3, 2026.Another possibility is changing investor behaviour. Some holders may now prefer to keep their Bitcoin for longer rather than frequently deposit or move it between exchanges.Bitcoin Price OutlookAs of now, Bitcoin is down 1.09% to $76,915.34 over the past 24 hours, while the broader crypto market remains mostly flat. The decline has triggered more activity in the derivatives market, with Bitcoin liquidations jumping to $105 million in 24 hours.Bitcoin is now testing support near $77,300. If this level holds, the price could recover toward resistance at $78,000. However, a clear break below $76,460 could open the way toward the next support near $73,800.
