Algorand: Node runners vote on v5.0.0 consensus upgrade - 12 Aug 2026

Algorand v5.0.0 was released today, and node runners will now vote on the consensus upgrade. If approved, it will add post-quantum accounts, resource-based fees that price transaction contents, and a larger, more flexible AVM.The proposed changes address network security, fee allocation, and application capacity. Post-quantum accounts would add protocol-level support for accounts designed around post-quantum security, while resource-based fees would align charges with what transactions consume. A larger AVM could support broader application functionality.
